Backed by major record labels like Universal Music, SONY BMG, Warner Music, and EMI Music Sandisk announced a new physical music format dubbed “slotMusic”, which is an MicroSD memory card pre-loaded with high quality, DRM-free MP3 music.
Further, top retailers like Wal-Mart and Best Buy have already signed deals to start selling slotMusic cards in the upcoming holiday season, the format is primarily aimed at millions of users with cellphones and MP3 players with MicroSD slots, users can insert the card and immediately hear the music, no official price has been yet announced but industry sources suggest estimated price of for $7 to $10 initially.
