All-new PhoneTrans - Manage iPhone iPad Media & Apps in a Better Way

Surprisingly this fall we got three brand new Apple gadgets, the iPhone 5, iPod touch 5 and 'Renanoed' iPod nano 7. Before buying one or more of them, have you thought about how many Apple devices are already in your family? If you and your families have a bunch of iPhones, iPads and iPods, probably you'll get big headache to manage them upon one single computer.

The root cause of this inconvenience is iTunes, an application that takes on almost everything, e.g. iDevice media (and app) management, purchase, and playback jukebox, and much more. Apart from constant updates, slowness, source-consuming, complicated settings and limits, iTunes also leaves the media and app management part far away from desired. We have reviewed the best Apple iTunes alternative PhoneTrans earlier, well it got better and now features an brand new user-interface and supports synchronization of music, Apps, movies, music videos, TV shows, podcasts, ringtones and eBooks.

One frequently met situation is that Adding a single HD movie to iPad may take about half an hour and risk losing all apps along the way. Besides, iTunes will also fill up hard drive with tens of gigabytes of iOS apps that can easily be downloaded from Apple. Syncing apps frequently may also destroy folders and make apps disappear. Another problem is Managing multiple devices on one computer with no way to move music, movies back to PC hard drive.

Downloading and using TinyUmbrella to save Apple Device SHSH Blobs

TinyUmbrella

What is TinyUmbrella ?

TinyUmbrella is an utility for Windows and MAC which allows users to save SHSH Blobs or Digital Signatures for Apple Devices (iPhone, iPad and Apple TV) locally, this allows restores to older firmware's which are no longer officially supported by Apple. TinyUmbrella works the magic by running locally as a proxy to iTunes, intercepting and faking the communication while iTunes thinks it is communicating with Apple servers for authenticating the firmware restore as permitted irrespective of what Apple Servers allow and disallow. This feature becomes indispensable for users relying on "Software unlocks" which are supported on older firmwares and basebands, as Apple restricts restores to these exploited versions forcing users to newer versions of iOS.

What is SHSH Blobs ?

These are backup files of firmware digital signatures which are needed to restore an Apple device, Apple generates these based on hardware keys of the device and the hash of the firmware - which makes them unique for every device. It is to be noted that Apple only issues signatures for the currently-available, current iOS version. What TinyUmbrella does is to save these digital signatures locally for later use, when Apple does not allow them.

How to save SHSH Blobs using TinyUmbrella ?

Simply download the TinyUmbrella utility (links provided at the end of this blog post), and connect your device. Once detected click the "Save SHSH button" and it's done, if having errors look at our TinyUnmbrella troubleshooting guide.

Fixing the 100% rootfs usage on Raspberry Pi and errors resulting due to that

While a lot of graphical user-interfaces and utilities are available for Linux, there are times when one needs some command line skill sets to get things going. After installing my Raspberry Pi with an Debian operating-system and using the popular "X Window System" to manage it, things went bad today as the "startx" command failed to load the graphical user-interface. Upon digging up through terminal using "df -h" command, it was clear there was no space left on the rootfs partition which was causing "X" to fail loading.

It needs to be noted that the official Raspberry Debian Wheezy Image does not partition the SD card to it's full capacity, and we need to do that later as instructed ahead. Extending the root partition to utilize full-space will also get rid of application launch errors caused due to non-availability of disk space in rootfs partition.
