World's largest rail-network under a single management Indian Railways is now ready with its new mobile information system to further ease access to the existing railways inquiry system, the new all India railways information access number 139 allows passengers to access train information like PNR status, current train schedule, fare inquiry and accommodation availability anywhere, anytime through SMS on their mobile phones.
Currently the service is available to Airtel, Vodafone, MTNL, Idea, Aircel, BPL and TATA customers only, surprisingly India's largest telecom service provider BSNL is not in the list of current supported providers but access from BSNL and Reliance network is coming soon, you can find the SMS codes you will need to access various information from the service at the end of the post, keep in mind this is a premium service and is charged at Rs. 3/- per SMS.

Indian Railways PNR Status
This will come in handy, I always wanted to have facility of checking current PNR status on phone, this will help a lot, altough govt. should have made SMS price to cost normal and not premium.
Thanks

Rather they should do the other way round!
I'd rather like to have it this way:
1. we anyways have our cell ph. registered in our online account with Indian Railway.
2. I should get an updated SMS whenever there is a 'status change' of any kind from railway...
how @ that.. why should I need to enquire? Any new change, should be communicated to me actively rather than I checking for it and then getting surprised of any train delays etc....
That should be a good Idea!
That should be a good Idea! Hope Railways will implement something like this!

Good one to all travel. Now a days there is one feature online at portals i.e PNR Prediction of pnr status. Its helps in predicting the chances of your tickets getting confirmed. Good feature to use.
