Apple iOS4 is finally out and so does the jailbreaking and unlocking utilities, the iPhone Dev Team has posted updates to their iPhone Jailbreaking utility redsn0w and carrier unlock ultrasn0w to support the newest iOS version with latest baseband (05.13.04) - this means that users can now safely update their iDevices to current iOS version without worrying about loosing there unlock and jailbreak ability.
The procedure to jailbreak and unlock iOS4 remains same, you simply need to use the newer binaries provided via download links below.

I won't recommend using iOS5
I won't recommend using iOS5 on 3GS or any other iPhone that is meant to be Jailbroken. We can very well install the iOS regardless of your bootrom but it would be only a tethered jailbreak which to me is almost useless in my day to day activities.

the bug seem to be with redsn0w 0.9.5b5-3 as it doesn't detect ipsw files
another primary concern to look at is its not compatible with 3GS guys
its till 3G with 4.0 firmware.
