No matter how fast and efficient your web-browser is, it can start to crawl if multiple tabs are opened. We recently reviewed The Great Suspender - a free extension for Google Chrome browser allowing users to suspend tabs saving computing resources when not in use. Well, we now have an even better option.

OneTab - the free, web-browser extension for Google Chrome allows users to save upto 95% of computer memory by converting opened tabs into a single tab, listing all individual tabs. Unlike The Great Suspender this solution not only offers a much efficient system resources saving, but also provides additional screen real state in the tab-bar.

OneTab also allows you to easily import and export tabs as a list of URLs. The option to make a web page allows sharing of tab-list with other users, computers, and devices like smartphones and tablets.

The extension also offers full drag-n-drop functionality to organize your tab list. You can also hold down the Ctrl or Cmd key while restoring tabs, and they will remain in your OneTab list (meaning you can use OneTab as a way of quickly launching a set of commonly used tabs).

High memory usage is something most modern tabbed browser are plagued with, we have shared the excellent FireMin add-on for Firefox to tame the situation, and here is an equivalent for Google Chrome.

Working on the same concept as BarTab for Firefox; The Great Suspender for Google Chrome makes unused tabs inactive saving computing resources. The addon dramatically reduced the memory usage to 1.5x. Tab suspension not only saves memory, but also aids in a snappier browsing experience as inactive tabs do not consume other computing resources.

Firefox high memory consumption is one of the biggest challenges this popular, open-source project, has faced in tough browser wars, while there have been quite a few attempts to make the web-browser optimized with forks and utilities and Mozilla foundation even addressed the "memory leakage" issue with targeted efforts like MemShrink - the results were promising but nothing very exciting.

Spat between Late Steve Jobs And Adobe Flash is well-known among the tech-circle, surprisingly Adobe has dropped down their weapons and announced not to further develop the "Adobe Flash Plugin" for mobile devices anymore. According to the official blog-post announcing this Adobe is encouraging developers to use Adobe AIR and HTML5 in the future as alternatives to the Flash web-plugin.

Mozilla adapted the Google Chrome styled "rapid release cycle" and sticking to the policy has released the "Firefox 8 Final" for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android within two months of Firefox 7 Final release. The major version update includes new features to make Web browsing easier, providing users and developers more control over how they customize their Web experience.

Mozilla Firefox 7 Final is out now and feature's the much awaited MemShrink memory optimizations to the popular web-browser, the new update to Firefox 6 brings an overall faster browsing experience to users by offering faster speeds when opening new tabs, enhanced performance when lots of tabs are open and during long Web browsing sessions that last hours or days, more responsive clicking on menu items and buttons on websites, lower memory consumption (see comparison between Firefox 6 and Firefox 7 before and after update with same tabs and load).

Apart from the memory and speed enhancements - this release also features new tools which are designed to make it easier for developers to build speedy Web experiences for users. A new version of hardware-accelerated Canvas, W3C navigation timing spec API (allowing developers to measure page load time and other related crucial factors) and a brand new Telemetry tool to collect performance data across userbase for improving the browser performance further are also included.

Mozilla has adopted the Rapid-release strategy with new major browser version number release channels for each version (alpha, beta and stable) of it's Firefox web-browser, sticking to the plan Mozilla has made Firefox 6 Final (stable channel) and Firefox 7 Beta 1 (Beta Channel) available publicly to Windows, Mac and Linux users.

Firefox 6 Final claims to provide better startup-speed, memory-consumption and performance to it's predecessors, the release also feature numerous fixes and fortify's overall browser security. The other release Firefox 7 Beta 1 (Beta Channel) features major memory optimizations by incorporating Mozilla's MemShrink optimizations and better Javascript garbage collector, Firefox 7 will also feature tools to help developers measure load times and offer faster Synchronization of bookmarks and passwords.
